Marrakech is a great starting point to explore Morocco by car. Here are three popular getaways, with approximate distances to double-check on your GPS before you leave.
Marrakech – Essaouira (about 175 km)
A direct road to the Atlantic coast. Allow around two and a half hours of driving. Ideal for a day trip or a weekend: medina, ramparts and beach.
Marrakech – Ouarzazate (about 200 km)
The road crosses the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass. Plan 4 to 5 hours including stops, and leave in the morning to enjoy the scenery. An SUV adds comfort on mountain roads.
Marrakech – Agadir (about 250 km)
A wide, comfortable road heading south. Perfect to combine city and beach over a few days.
Road tips
Fill up before long mountain sections, avoid driving at night outside the cities and keep your phone charged. With full insurance and unlimited mileage you can drive without counting.
